The Reification of Language – New Course [fall 2016]
During the fall of 2016, Olof Pettersson will give the course “The Reification of Language: Plato’s Phaedrus and the Ethics of Reason” at the department of philosophy, University of Uppsala.
Course Description: “Plato’s Phaedrus is famous for its critique of the reification of language. Traditionally interpreted as a critique of the written word in favor of the living voice, this course aims to analyze the dialogues’ account of language reification on a broader level. We will investigate how Plato’s dramatic narrative has the ability to identify another level of critique and study this critique in relation to how the dialogue has been received in the literature.”
